"When considering business survival options (AND by implication profit erosion in your company), you need to address the lack of employee productivity too. "One area that is often overlooked is employee absence as cause for low productivity. As our cartoon suggests, the reasons for employee absence could sometimes be hidden and we can even talk about hidden agendas in some cases. "Real sick leave and strikes do not always pose such a high risk to us. It is only when it is misused, that we encounter real productivity loss and eventually profit erosion. "Most of the time the underlying reason for improper employee absence is unhappiness or dissatisfaction. "We therefore need to try and identify the real reasons. Many times it is only because of simple reasons that employees stay away, like unhappiness about their current job positions, unfair treatment by Management, Management's unwillingness to listen to employees' complaints etc. "I have found that team building exercises do NOT reduce employee dissatisfaction at all. But to deal with, for example, a troublemaker in the office and to rather get rid of the employee causing problems can produce far better results than artificial team building exercises. "Further, some companies came up with ingenious solutions.
